Hole changing

We came in on saturday night to change holes, this will give me a head start tomorrow morning with setting the course up for captain v's vice captain. The pin position is now at C.

Friday 30 March 2012

Summer course

Both courses are now back to full summers all new pins, cups, flags, tee signs and markers are in place. The new colour for the markers are as follows black, white blue and red. The new score card is in place for the new season this now has pin placements on it, the pin position today and tomorrow is D. The holes may be getting changed again on sat evening in preparation for captain v's vice captain but this will be weather dependant.

Tee posts

The new tee posts and markers where put out on the golf course today. This will really tidy up the tees as the old tee signs where well worn.

18th pond

With the weather being so dry we are having to use the irrigation system to fill the pond at the 18th green. This pond was emptied to be cleaned out but hasn't had the opportunity to fill up again.

Also we have carried on with course preparation/presentation for the weekend.

Monday 26 March 2012

Dry

The good weather has been holding out, so we have been taking full advantage. We have pretty much finished cutting around the trees. The greens, tees, fairways and rough will be cut as required.

As the dry weather is continuing we sprayed the greens with a wetting agent to stop them drying out too much, we also mixed this with vision pro, this is a new product we are trying this year, it puts a dark pigment on the leaf tip that helps the plant absorb more heat and help with growth.

The greens triple and pedestrian mowers have also been sharpened today, this will ensure we have as good a quality of cut as possible for captain v's vice captain on Sunday.

Course prep

We've had a really good run of weather recently so we are taking full advantage. The greens have been cut a couple of times this wk and have a nice roll. The new machine that we got a few weeks ago has been busy and were starting to the get the definition around the tees, greens, bunkers and fairways. Also we are starting to around the trees cut as its not long until the opening game.

Next week if the good weather continues I plan to have a full cut of all areas on the course.

New ball scoops for the ponds have gone out today and next week we will get the new markers, tee signs, hole cups, flags and pins put out for the new season.

Monday 19 March 2012

16th pond

As you can see in the photo below the new overflow has worked well on the 16th pond and the water is up to a very good level.

We have also carried on getting the course ready for the new season, in the next couple of days we will be getting all the sleeves in place for the new tee signs. We have also had our irrigation recommissioned after its winter shut down.

Saturday 17 March 2012

Extension

The extension is coming together very well, the roof beams/supports where put on the structure on Friday.

Tuesday 13 March 2012

Top dressing

Today we top dressed the greens, over seeded and brushed in. The conditions where very favourable and the top dressing went in very well. We also replaced the planks on the bridge at 16 as the others where old and damaged.

The wee greens also got fed with an organic fertiliser called TX10.

Monday 12 March 2012

New machine

We also took delivery of our new machine on Friday this was a Toro Sidewinder rotary deck, this will be for raising the presentation levels around tees, fairways and greens.

Coring greens

We have cored the greens on the big course with a 8mm tine going down roughly 40mm, this is a small enough core that it should have little if any effect on the roll of the ball. We verti cut the cores up and tidied the remainder of the surface with a blower. This was crucial as we need to keep removing thatch and getting air into the profile. We plan to top dress tomorrow this will aid in firming the surfaces up.

Tuesday 6 March 2012

Tee posts

The new tee posts are getting there 2nd coat of brown, so once that drys we will get the grooves painted the applicable colour and the new plaques will be fitted on.

Monday 5 March 2012

2nd fairway

We have installed a sump into the 2nd fairway. This is in the location where we filled in the old pond. There had been some water lying last year which was quite slow to drain away, we hope to aid the water movement by putting the sump in. We dug down roughly 3 meters and the hole was 3 meters long by 1.5 meters wide. This was then back filled with large boulders then a load of slightly smaller rock and then the last load of 40mm screened stone. This was then covered by teram to stop the sand was through into the stone, we will then turf it and dress off any rutted areas round about.

Golf membership

Intersted in Golf Membership at Piperdam?

There has never been a better time to join Piperdam, with prices frozen for the 2012 season and now even more benefits. Membership of Piperdam is really exceptional value. We now have four different membership packages available so that we can better meet your needs. Prices, details and benefits of each membership are listed below.

For the first time at Piperdam we now have a youth category of membership for 18 to 22 year olds that will ease the transition for young people between junior and adult golf fees. Eligibility for any age category is determined by the age you are on the 1st of April 2012.

Piperdam's Osprey golf club is affiliated to the SGU and therefore our members can, if they wish, aquire a national handicap and enjoy a great blend of social and competitive golf.

Throughout the season you would have the option to play up to three medal rounds each week and represent Piperdam in the Strathmore League. The club competitions, however frequent, do take on a fairly informal and social format and are a great way to meet other members.

There is also an outing organized each year by the club to one of our neighboring courses for any members that fancy a great day out.

Ground conditions are wet underfoot today after the rain last night, no cutting is taking place today instead we are getting the courses set up for the weekend this is involves changing holes, moving markers, emptying bins, raking bunkers and a general check to make sure all is as should be.

Also quite foggy this morning at Piperdam as you can see by the photo!!

Thursday 1 March 2012

Spraying

First signs of some disease (fusarium) coming through on a couple of greens, this is general a high risk period historically for us, so we have blanket sprayed the greens on the osprey course. The chemical was tank mixed with some seaweed. We have also had another cut on the greens and approaches.
